If there’s one thing our Nonni taught us, it’s how to be nice and make friends.
Mike and Renata share a Canadian friendship. Both born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta in families of Italian immigrants, they talk with friends in the community about life as Ital-Canadians. They share stories about their youth and talk about today’s real-world topics. Sometimes, they even call a Nonna for advice.
Mike’s father comes from a family of southern Italians while his mother’s side comes from western Ukraine. His culture has taught him all about food, family, love and traditions, while growing up in the Great White North has taught him important values such as pride, belief in equality and diversity, and respect for all individuals. Mike is an event and promotions professional who enjoys photography, participating in outdoor adventure, and travelling in his spare time.
Renata’s southern Italian parents immigrated to Canada in the 1950’s and 1960’s and settled into diversified neighborhoods which stemmed Renata’s deep appreciation for multiculturalism. Born into a family of chefs and musicians she remembers her youth being encircled by incredible food and handsome music. Renata is a mother, wife and food lover and enjoys a career as a strategic business consultant and entrepreneur. In her spare time, she loves experimenting in the kitchen and being creative.
Together, Mike and Renata enjoy volunteering in the Italian community with Edmonton’s Amici Italiani and generally just being Italian. In Canada. Eating tacos.
